EPL 6305 - Special Topics in Educational Leadership
This applied course aimed at K12 practitioners seeking principal certification introduces students to topics in èßäÊÓÆµapp level educational leadership outside the domains and competencies of Texas Required Competencies for Pre-Service Principals. These courses are designed to broaden students’ capacity for leadership and to provide students with choices for coursework related to their own interests and their unique place in the K12 space.
EPL 6340 - Legal and Ethical Aspects of Leadership
Focuses on the legal and policy issues critical to effective school leadership. èßäÊÓÆµapp explore the constitutional and statutory rights of key stakeholders and develop strategies to make legally and ethically defensible decisions. Topics include equity and access; compliance; ethics; and the development, communication, and implementation of effective policy.
EPL 6350 - Developing Human Capital

EPL 6354 - Leading Organizational Change
Focuses on practical frameworks and strategies for change that leaders use to enhance the effectiveness of their organizations. Topics include effective approaches and potential barriers to change.
EPL 6355 - School Culture and Student Support
Assists students in understanding and applying proactive strategies that build an inclusive, equitable èßäÊÓÆµapp culture to promote students’ wellbeing and student learning. Discusses the relationship between a strong, positive culture and highly effective classroom instruction that fosters student social-emotional growth and academic learning.
EPL 6367 - Instructional Leadership: Literacy
Upon completion of a year-long èßäÊÓÆµapp improvement initiative, students compose a final capstone paper in which they synthesize the project portfolio components, analyze final data, and make recommendations for future consideration. Although this class occurs during the summer term of the second year, the capstone paper is the culmination of a school improvement project completed throughout the year.
EPL 6368 - Instructional Leadership: STEM
Addresses trends and issues impacting instructional programs in mathematics and science, and STEM more broadly. The information incorporated in the topical discussions also addresses research around student learning, building teacher capacity, and implementing high quality instruction.
EPL 6375 - Leading with Values
Enables participants to examine their identity as a leader and the ways their decisions and actions impact values-driven behavior, organizational resilience, adaptability, and an achievement-based culture.
Field Courses and Portfolio
EPL 6348 - Field Studies
Internship activities directly aligned to the coursework in each module of the program. Field studies projects are part of a summative portfolio assessment.
EPL 6285 - Summer Residency (Summer Term, year 2)
Candidates practice their leadership skills through collaboration and leadership opportunities with school administrators and educators during a summer residency experience. They grow through ongoing coaching, meaningful assessments, and performance feedback. Internship activities are directly aligned to the coursework in the program modules. Field studies projects are part of a summative portfolio assessment.
EPL 6283 - Fall Residency (Fall Term, year 2)
Candidates practice their leadership skills through collaboration and leadership opportunities with school administrators and educators during a fall residency experience. They grow through ongoing coaching, meaningful assessments, and performance feedback. Internship activities are directly aligned to the coursework in the program modules.
